Solo Exhibition - La première
27 April - 28 June 2024
Salon Chemistry
Every ‘première’ contains a mixed feeling of anticipation and unfamiliarity. In the split second of the first encounter, the resonance of different frequencies creates different chemical reactions over time. At any time, any moment, it can be unstoppable, going beyond the bounds of imagination. Recalling each and every ‘première’, one may equate them to unprepared embarrassments. Yet, they might have created unexpected opportunities. The aftertaste of each drop of the ‘première’ essence fills up each and every subsequent experience.
In this exhibition of ‘La première’, BIKUTAMALAMIA makes use of the collision of varied brushworks, colours and materials to reveal the chemical reactions and chemistries of various kinds of ‘premières’. The four pieces of artwork from a perceptual perspective are going to awaken four different and unique ‘premières’ in everyone's mind. The artworks in this exhibition follow the consistent painting style of BIKUTAMALAMIA - oil pastel as the dominating element and watercolor and acrylic paint as the medium to create different textures, brushstrokes and blocks and lines. For this project, in addition to using new materials, different painting techniques such as splash-ink, stamping and other various techniques are applied to enrich the content. The artworks will burst the audience with the chemical reactions of the mixed feelings of each ‘première’.
The ‘première’ is always hidden with chemical reactions where all kinds of chemical reactions are channels for interaction and communication between people, which is exactly the idea of Salon Chemistry. This shared concept contributes to this collaboration between BIKUTAMALAMIA and Salon Chemistry. The artworks of BIKUTAMALAMIA are displayed at various eye-catching places in Salon Chemistry. On top of the indoor appreciation, a large-scale outdoor mural with the same theme allows the audience to feel the powerful impact of chemical reactions from different perspectives, awakening the chemistry of any buried ‘première’ in their memory.

The sensations and those sudden thoughts generated from the ‘premières’ fill our whole life. When one encounters the dazzling spark of the ‘première’, it embeds in you and becomes a part of you.

Diversity brings unimaginable opportunities to connected spaces. Universes with the same nature follow various traces, evolve into unstable elements, go in completely different directions and then disconnect again.

The ‘première’ is a very mysterious experience. The expected are not seen, yet the unanticipated are shown. The same beginning, encountering different resonances, creates different existences.

The unpredictables are scary but the anticipation is exciting. The molecules of the unknown and the unforeseen pull us around. The end of the previous moment brings the beginning of the next moment. Meeting, knowing, familiarising; every moment brings infinite possibilities.
